The Preschool Program at Greater Heights School

Children continue their journey of exploration and discovery in our Preschool Program. Greater Heights School Teachers help your child apply their developing literacy and math skills through purposeful, planned learning experiences. At three years old, preschool-age children have already moved through their stage of separation, and taken ownership of the classroom space; socialization skills have blossomed, and cooperative play becomes central to their school experience. We use the Frog Street Curriculum, which cultivates the students and is a high quality, research-based curriculum organized into ten skills domains that support the integration of curriculum and builds connections between and among all disciplines.

The Preschool Program

Language Arts and Literacy

Early language and literacy skills are learned best through everyday moments with your child—reading books, talking, laughing, and playing together. Greater Heights School Preschool Teachers encourage the beginning stages of reading and writing skills in both English and Spanish. Our Preschool Program classes help children learn language by continually conversing with them and hearing stories read. Greater Heights School Preschool children develop early literacy skills because we give them opportunities to play with and explore books and other written materials like magazines, newspapers, take-out menus, markers, and crayons.

STEAM (Science Technology Engineering, Art and Mathematics)

Greater Heights School Early Preschool Program’s STEAM curriculum and activities all involve our teachers creating a focus on the essentials in science, technology and mathematics. It is also in the preschool environment where students are introduced to 21st century learning through the introduction and use of technology in the classroom. Teachers also create authentic, discovery & scientific-based experiences where children can find success in their innate curiosity. Our STEAM activities promote advanced motor and cognitive development in our students as well as the ability to learn from trials and errors through experiential learning.


Social & Emotional Development

The Greater Heights School Preschool Program presents a completely balanced introduction to pre-academics while nurturing social-emotional development and life-skills. We believe when children are appropriately supported and encouraged to express and explore their thoughts, feelings, and ideas, we create an environment where each child is a valued member of the classroom community. As three-year-old children begin to play interactively with their peers, you will also see a real explosion in pretend play, a critical aspect of children’s development. Pretend play builds language, thinking, and social skills when children take on roles and develop their ideas and stories.

Leadership Development

Greater Heights School teachers understand that our reactions to your child send powerful messages and creates realizations on who they are and what their strengths and abilities are. Our approach to Leadership Development delivers lots of hugs and praise, confidence-building talk, encouragement to sing, laugh, and dance with the entire classroom are the kinds of messages that are the foundation of leadership building and self-confidence.

Preschool Program Safety

Each day, highly skilled teachers create a balance of independent discovery, cooperative learning, and generous outdoor playtime, all leading to school-readiness in a safe and secure environment. Our teachers supervise and facilitate cooperative play and collaborative problem-solving using age-appropriate materials. Playground safety is a top priority, and closed-toe shoes are worn by all children and faculty throughout the School, maintaining the highest of safety standards.
