2 Years – 3 Years

The Early Preschool Program at Greater Heights School

This age marks the transition from toddler to emerging preschooler. So much is happening as your child begins their third year! Your child is also showing you how capable and independent they are by doing lots of things for themselves, like learning to put on a jacket or help with tasks like setting the table. Perseverance is the ability to overcome obstacles to achieve a goal, which is essential to children’s success in school, career, and life. In our preschool classroom, children develop this crucial trait by engaging in play-based learning activities and remaining with them until they solve the problem or complete the project. Greater Heights School Preschool Teachers implement the Frog street curriculum that is in both English and Spanish, which is used to encourage children to investigate new skills and ideas and exposes students to critical school readiness skills. The goals of the Greater Heights School Preschool Teachers are to have the children comfortable with the concept of letters, writing, and other essential fundamentals.

The Early Preschool Program

Toilet Training – Instead of using age as an indicator, look for signs that your child may be ready to start heading for the potty, such as being able to: follow simple instructions, understand and use words about using the potty and, make the connection between the urges to use the potty. Other signs are finding your child can keep a diaper dry for 2 hours or more or exploring the bathroom or be able to sit on the toilet for enough time. If and when you and your child are ready, the Preschool Program Teachers at Greater Heights School will help you and your child reach that all-important milestone.

Language Arts and Literacy

We create ample opportunities for your 2-year-old to practice dual-languages and communication skills through music, play, and stories. We further develop communication skills by building children’s vocabularies and expanding their language skills by using words to refer to and describe familiar people, animals, and objects in a dual-language environment. Greater Heights School Early Preschool Teachers encourage these skills in both English and Spanish. Our Early Preschool Program classes help children learn language by continually conversing with them and by hearing stories read and songs are sung aloud in both English and Spanish.

STEAM (Science Technology Engineering, Art and Mathematics)

Greater Heights School Early Preschool Program’s STEAM curriculum and activities all involve our teachers building an exploration relationship with your child’s natural curiosities. The preschool program enhances the necessary social and intellectual skills each child needs to form a solid foundation for future learning and growth. Each learning environment is intricately designed to fuel self-esteem and encourage independence and collaboration. Greater Heights School Teachers are hands-on teachers that engage in communication, guide learning, and conduct activities that promote motor and cognitive development.

Social & Emotional Development

Our teachers create a patient, supportive environment for your 2-year-old to learn about themselves and to form relationships with others. Your child will participate in activities designed to help them understand trust, empathy, compassion, and a sense of right and wrong. Loving relationships give young children a sense of comfort, safety, confidence, and encouragement. Greater Heights School Early Preschool instructors teach children how to form friendships, communicate emotions, and to deal with challenges.

For added safety, closed-toe shoes are a requirement by all children while inside and outside. Early preschoolers are encouraged to participate in health and safety measures, while learning valuable life skills, such as handwashing.
